There are no official break requirements for any worker who is 18 years old or older, but it may be beneficial to provide breaks to increase efficiency and reduce the risk of error.

Federal law states that a break must be paid if it is 20 minutes or shorter. If a break exceeds 20 minutes, payment is not required, nor prohibited. It is up to the employer if they would like to allow for more rest than the minimum to increase on the job satisfaction.


Fringe benefits aren’t required in New Jersey, but if you decide not to provide them, they should be executed uniformly to comply with company policy or agreement with the employee.
