Motorcycle Safety Tips for Summer

Motorcycle Safety Tips for SummerAs summer has officially started, road trips are waiting to be had. Whether you choose to trek to the big city or take a long awaited trip across the country, you’re going to need to remember a few safety tips to keep you protected on your motorcycle. Especially as you’re prone to getting worn down by the outdoor elements, heed the following advice to ensure your trip goes off without a hitch. Furthermore, secure your vehicle with a customized NJ Motorcycle Insurance policy before setting out.

Beware of the signs of heat stroke.

According to The Lost Adventure, your body will send you signals that it’s having trouble with the heat, which can include cramps, nausea, headaches, extreme fatigue, flushed or pale skin, dizziness, and heavy sweating. Left unchecked, you can develop Heat Exhaustion, which is a form of mild shock. If you feel any of these symptoms, pull over immediately to hydrate and rest. While it may be tempting to get back on the road, don’t rush it. Take as long of a break as you need to really make sure you’re recovered.

Stay hydrated.

Naturally, your body needs water to function. Especially in extreme temperatures, it’s important to drink up to one liter of water an hour. This may seem like a lot, but when you’re exposed to direct heat and long rides, your body is quick to become dehydrated. Don’t wait to feel sick to start taking action, drink as much water as you can!

Keep your skin covered.

While it may seem counterproductive to cover up in extreme heat, your body will dehydrate faster if your skin is exposed to the sun. Abrasion resistant impact gear is critical for motorcycle riders, and there are plenty of materials you can choose from including leather or mesh. Pick your preferred one and cover up on the road!

Make frequent stops.

Make stops not just to fill up on gas, but also to cool off. A great tip is to leave your helmet in the outdoor ice freezers while you run inside to grab water or snacks. Be mindful of your body and know when it’s time to take a break.
